WELCOME TO MRS. FERREIRA'S CLASS

WELCOME TO MRS. FERREIRA'S CLASS !

This 4th Grade year will be a busy one, filled with learning experiences……..social, emotional, as well as academic.     We have so much ground to cover in such a short time.

It is my goal to ensure that the children have a positive and safe learning environment.   And I expect the children to maintain this environment.

My classroom expectations for each child is to:

  • Be respectful of others and property
  • Believe in the safety and welfare of self and of others
  • Be resourceful
  • Be responsible for oneself and one’s learning

I have established a Pointout System to help monitor one’s learning environment and to apply accountability for one’s academic and social behavior.   Whenever a student disrupts a class lesson/activity in any way, is not on task, or needs to be reminded of our class procedures, etc., the teacher will ‘point’ at him/her.     This gesture indicates to the child that he/she is to go to the designated chair at the side of the room to reflect on his/her behavior and/or attitude.   This procedure allows the class to continue without interrupting the lesson.   When he/she determines the inappropriate action, the child may return to his/her seat after recording on the Pointout record sheet.

Please note that the child, not the teacher, determines the length of stay at the Pointout area, thereby placing the responsibility on the child.

A good learning experience is built on a cooperative effort between the parent, the child, and the teacher.   My expectations for conduct and standards for academic growth are high.   I want you, the parent, and I to be ‘partners’ in your child’s learning process.   I’m interested in anything that could affect your child’s progress.   Please do contact me if you have a concern, question, or suggestion.

It is important for us to establish and maintain communication.   You can send a note to school with your child, or write in the ‘communication log’ section of your child’s assignment/communication folder, or call the school/classroom (974-4855, ext. 243) and leave a message.
